PLANNING YOUR TRIP
When is the best time to visit Bakuriani for skiing?
The ski season in Bakuriani typically runs from late December through late March. For the 2025–2026 season, Kokhta lifts opened on December 20 and Didveli & Mitarbi on December 27, with the season expected to close around March 21–April 5, 2026. The sweet spot for snow quality and fewer crowds is late January through early February or the last two weeks of March — the snowiest week historically is the third week of March, averaging 26 cm of fresh snowfall. Avoid the New Year holiday period (December 30 – January 13) and the mid-February UAE school break, as lifts and roads get heavily congested.
How do I get to Bakuriani from Tbilisi?
Bakuriani is approximately 180 km from Tbilisi — about a 2.5–3 hour drive via the Rikoti Highway. The road is fully paved, and winter tires are mandatory. You can take a marshrutka van from Tbilisi's Didube Bus Station, book a private transfer via GoTrip, or rent a car. Note: The historic Kukushka train is currently not operating.
